There have been a lot of changes to this week’s iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max availability. Remember – we are into week six of launch. About this time, things should start to settle down with an occasional color out of stock.
This is not the case in 2022, especially at AT&T. Given their earnings comments, it’s probably safe to say that there has been a greater than expected iPhone upgrade rate in both consumer and business channels, with more upgrades to the iPhone 14 Pro Max than expected. Verizon has also experienced persistent backlogs at the higher iPhone 14 Pro Max storage options (512 GB and 1 TB).
These are not going to move the volume needle (our estimate from talking to industry sources is that 60-70% of the volume occurs at the 128 GB entry storage level) but definitely an indication of higher than expected demand. This finding is consistent with feedback from other analysts.
The iPhone 14 Pro is beginning to show signs of stability, but we should know for sure by the November 6 report. Holiday promotions notwithstanding, we expect solid availability and minimal backlogs for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro with standard 2-3 week backlogs for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
